FAQs and Helpful Tips

Common College Admissions Requirements in Missouri

Use this document to help as your plan out high school courses each year during advising.

Helpful Tips:

  • Create and use an appropriate and professional personal email address for everything college-related. Do not register for events, or sign up for anything using your Rockwood (rsdmo.org) email address because you will not have access to it after graduation.

  • School Profile - Applications may ask for your class rank. Rockwood does not rank students. Colleges have access to our School Profile which gives them a breakdown of the current Senior Class GPAs and other important information about Marquette. The School Profile is located on the main page of our website.

  • Enroll in, or continue to work toward, the A+ Program.  Even if you do not attend a community college, some schools in the state of Missouri offer incentives for completing A+. A+ Coordinator Website
  • Parents/Guardians should begin to complete the FAFSA for graduating Seniors who plan to attend  college as soon as it is available. Check college sites for deadlines to submit the FAFSA as this could affect scholarships and other aid opportunities https://studentaid.gov/

When should I apply?

  • Early Decision (ED) - Often November 1st, a “binding agreement” If admitted, you will attend that college and withdraw all other applications. You are telling the college that you will attend if admitted regardless of financial aid or scholarships. You can only apply ED to 1 school. If you cannot afford the school without financial assistance, Early Decision may not be your best option. Some schools may have ED 1 and ED 2 deadlines, be sure to read the fine print so that you understand the differences and implications of each.

  • Early Action (EA) is a great option for the well-prepared student who has a solid transcript and has taken the necessary standardized tests. October 15 is now the first deadline for many colleges and universities. Students may apply EA to as many colleges as they choose and it is non-binding. The biggest benefit for students is that they are notified early; in most cases before January 1.

  • Priority - usually associated with scholarship consideration and/or other incentives
  • Regular Decision - Often December-February, non-binding, widely available
  • Rolling Admission- applications accepted at any time with admissions decisions throughout the annual application cycle, usually a Spring deadline or no deadline at all

Where can I find scholarships?

  • Look at college/university websites were you are applying. Scholarships are usually found under "Scholarships" and/or "Financial Aid".

  • Visit our Scholarships page often for opportunities throughout the year.
